Three final blurbs for Apocalypse!
“Soulful, but sinfully funny, Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse is for any reader who’s ever had to deal with ‘the end of the world.’ (In other words, all of us!)” – Micol Ostow, author of 30 Guys in 30 Days and Family
A pretty great blurb, right? Micol’s recent book, Family, has been called “Terrifyingly good … and incredibly terrifying” by author Lauren Myracle. It also has the most chilling and effective book trailer I’ve seen. About the book’s central cult leader character, Booklist said, “Ostow’s Henry is fascinating, a pied piper hell-bent on reaching the masses, whether through love or terror.” So check it out. And watch that trailer. But not right before bed. Thank you, Micol!
“An unflinching exploration of faith, devotion, and doubt: What do we believe in? Why do we believe it? Klauss asks us, and his characters, the essential questions.” – Lauren Strasnick, author of Nothing Like You and Her and Me and You
This blurb really gets to the heart of the book. And while there’s plenty of flinching in the story (Phillip’s a nervous kid), I’m seriously quite gratified to hear that it’s not on my end. Lauren’s books have received great reviews, including her recent novel, Her and Me and You. Horn Book said, “Alex’s first-person narrative and the challenges of making a new start ring true; teen girls will gobble up the quick, engaging read.” Thank you, Lauren!
And now, the thirteenth and final blurb. It’s a doozy!
“Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse is funny, heart-wrenching, and true. An amazing debut.” – Morgan Matson, author of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour
I know from experience that Morgan knows how to critique fiction—we were in the same tiny Class of ‘07 at the New School’s Writing for Children MFA program. I was a fan of hers before it was cool and was not at all surprised when her debut, Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, went on to great success and was named a 2011 ALA Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults book. So I’m telling you, trust her on this one. And read her book! It’s awesome! Thank you, Morgan!
And that’s it. Almost! I’d also like to thank my editor, Anica. She picked a great group of authors to ask for blurbs and her enthusiasm convinced me this wouldn’t be a totally embarrassing process. Indeed, it turned out to be quite the opposite! Thank you, Anica!
Tomorrow I’ll post the full list of blurbs, without my commentary.
